These groups are for anyone interested in reducing the discomfort caused by stress and anxiety in their lives. The workshop consists of four one-hour classes designed to teach you a number of techniques for not only managing day to day stress, but to allow your brain to become less anxious, permanently. For group members who wish to continue beyond this introductory course, there will be more opportunities to develop these skills in future offerings.

Each class covers a variety of topics including :

Meditation Skills
You will receive training in a number of meditation techniques that have been shown  to improve your brain chemistry to make you less anxious and reduce stress in as little as 15 minutes a day. Meditation is easy to learn but takes practice to master. To motivate you, we will review research being done at medical schools across the country, (many that are  funded by National Institute for Mental Health grants) that demonstrates the permanent improvements in brain health that are possible through meditation.

Mindfulness
In addition to learning meditation techniques, we will discuss proven strategies for reducing stress that help you keep anxiety levels to a minimum throughout the day as well as cope with stressful events in a more relaxed way.

Stress Agents:
We will discuss various substances including over-the-counter and prescribed medications that can increase your anxiety as well as some that can be helpful.  We also talk about the role of caffeine, stimulants, alcohol and other substances on your stress level and how to manage these so that they don't interfere with good health.

When: Workshops meet at various times throughout the year based on interest. We meet on Monday nights at 6PM for 4 weeks.  If that time doesn't work for you, indicate a preferred time on the Relaxation Training Enrollment Form (see the link below) and we will try to put a group together that meets your needs.  Our next  group is scheduled to begin on April 28th 2014 at 6PM.
